It’s officially that time of the year. The start of the well-known Kenner League (Or the Nike Pro-City League as was renamed but will no longer be referenced by in this post) is upon us. As a DC native I have always known of the Kenner League and its rich history but this will be the first time I have had the opportunity to attend games.
Our friends over at Casual Hoya provided a great primer for the what to expect when attending a Kenner League game at the McDonough Arena on Georgetown’s campus.
This marks the first chance to see the 2012 recruiting class, led by point guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Mouth of
Wilson, Va./Oak Hill Academy), for ourselves. All together there will be 12 members of the Hoyas 2012-2013 team that will be participating. If you love Hoyas hoops that should more than pique your interest in this summers installment of the Kenner.
These Hoyas are spread out among the leagues 14 teams. I have listed the players participating and their corresponding team below (* indicates incoming freshman).
Markel Starks: Clyde’s
Nate Lubick: Clyde’s
Otto Porter: The Tombs
John Caprio: The Tombs
*Brandon Bolden: The Tombs
*Bradley Hayes: The Tombs
*D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera: The Tombs
Jabril Trawick: DCX
Greg Whittington: DCX
Mikael Hopkins: Team Takeover

Moses Ayegba: Hoop Magic
The Kenner is split into two divisions, the Hyper Dunk Division and the Hyper air division. Emery Heights Elite, Hoop Magic and The Tombs will compete in the Hyper Dunk Division while Clyde’s, DCX and Team Takeover will play in the Hyper Air Division.
Regular season games will be played every weekend starting today, July 6th, through Sunday, July 29th. The playoffs will begin on Thursday, August 2nd and run through Sunday, August 5th.
Check back with the Dime over the next month for coverage of the 2012 Kenner League.
